Five Dollar Fat Fee? Say whaaa?

Ugh, prepare to be disgusted. I had to share this horrifying post from Sephora's Beauty and the Blog writer, Jenna Mahoney.

"One reason we all love beauty and booty of products is because no matter our size—makeup always fits. But it seems as though that isn’t always so. Especially in this recent case of the Five Dollar Fat Fee, where a manicurist added a surcharge to compensate for her client’s weight. According to the salon manager, overweight customers put undue stress on expensive pedicure chairs and that supplemental fee is to over any repair costs (which can be up to nearly three grand). Now, where I get my nails done there aren’t special fees for women with more calloused feet. Nor are their surprise surcharges for girls with extra-out-to-there nails, so, although I can understand those bouncy massage chairs are darn expensive, I can’t see the reasoning in tacking on a special fee based on someone’s appearance. And I find that especially true when the entire point of manis, pedis, makeup and the like are supposed to enhance our self-esteem, not destroy it."

Thoughts on this?

  1. I'd be very offended if I were a large person and that happened to me. It's discriminating.
