Beauty secrets from my boyfriend.

The only beauty ritual I've ever witnessed my boyfriend perform (other than shaving) is moisturize his face. And I *hate to brag, but the boy has damn good skin. He rarely plays hosts to a zit, and his face is smooth and never dry looking. His secret? Aloe vera.

Aloe vera gel is the only product other than toothpaste and Old Spice Deodorant (raaawr) on his bathroom counter. I've always found it kind of weird, because I normally think of aloe as something used for cuts or a brutal sunburn. But, after a terrible, frustrating week of dry skin around my eyes, I decided to give it a try. I purchased a bottle of Life Brand 100% Aloe Gel from Shopper's and started my trial.

I used the gel for one month on my face. I applied it nightly after my cleansing routine, aaaaaand (drum roll) I'm totally stoked on the results. I noticed the biggest change around my eyes, where I normally get really dry and flaky skin. My skin has been way more supple and kind of "bouncy" when I touch it, especially noticeable the morning after applying it.

I'm going to continue to use aloe as my nightly moisturizer. I don't recommend the gel for use under makeup, but there are a ton of aloe moisturizers on the market that would probably work great. I really like the gel because it's almost 100 per cent natural, extremely gentle and inexpensive. I purchased my bottle from Shopper's for $4.99 and only need about a quarter-sized amount to cover my entire face.

Want more reasons to use aloe? I was doing some research and studies suggest that ingesting aloe has tons of benefits as well. It's believed to help detoxify liver and kidneys, act as an antioxidant, aid in digestion, strengthen the immune system and increase blood circulation. You can purchase it in capsule form at most drugstores.

Kudos to my boyfriend for knowing more about skin care than me. Who knew?

*love

  1. You should look into the wonders of tea tree oil next. It is the cure for everything. Seriously.

  2. I agree with the article that aloe vera gel is best for anti aging. I especially like the 100% pure aloe vera gel nothing.

  3. I've tried tea tree oil a few times and use it on zits if one pops up, but I haven't had too much success with it yet. I'm going to continue to try it though.
