Challenge #3 - Southgate Stylist Search

Thank you all for journeying with me through each challenge in the Southgate Stylist Search. This very long job interview is almost finished, and I have to say I would be excited to see any of the stylists win! Everyone has done such a great job at showcasing their talents.

Challenge 3 is now up for your viewing pleasure. We were asked to blog about spring's must-have items on a limited budget. Blogging is what I really do best, so I was very excited about this challenge!

If you like my post and think I should be the Southgate Stylist (duh!) please VOTE FOR JANIS HERE.

The sun is shining, the snow is melting, and we can finally come out of hibernation. The best part? With warm weather comes opportunity to update your wardrobe. Put some spring in your step and spice up your wardrobe without breaking the bank, all at a one-stop shop. Find these five, fabulous finds at your Southgate Centre.

1. Wedges

Wedge heels will flood store shelves this spring in all varieties including open-toe, espadrilles, and towering heights for the courageous and safer heights for the rest of us. What’s so great about them? They go with everything from ankle-grazing cigarette pants to flirty summer dresses. Plus, they do all the work in extending your legs to envious lengths when wearing
shorts, skirts or pants.

2. Bell Bottoms/Wide-Leg Pants

Flared pants have reemerged to flatter almost every body type. They balance out pear shapes and provide tall and skinny bodies with some curves. You’ll get lots of wear out of a pair of dark denim, wide-leg pants, which can be perfectly casual for running errands or glammed up with a small heel for an evening out. Add some feathered hair and you’ll be a Farrah Fawcett look-a-like in no time.

: At an unbeatable price point, wide-leg jeans from Smart Set, on sale for only $29.99! (I actually own these!)

3. Trench Coat

It can still be chilly during the spring, so you’ll need something to take you from the warmth of day, into cooler nights. A well-fitting trench turns sidewalks into catwalks by giving your outfit instant sophistication. Look for a trench coat with long sleeves, which can be rolled up if you’re feeling warm and buttons straight up to your chin if a rain cloud threatens overhead.
Fit Tip: Make sure the shoulder seams sit right at the edge of your shoulders and the end of the sleeves lay on your wrist bones.

4. Easy, Breezy Dress

A staple in every woman’s spring wardrobe. Simply slip it on and you’re ready to go. It’s perfect for work paired with a cardigan and after-work cocktails on the patio. Look for a dress with an empire waist and an A-Line cut that ends mid-knee for the most flattering shape.

: A trendy, neutral, silk dress from Banana Republic that can be jazzed up with colourful accessories. $129.99. (Photo:

5. Statement Necklace

Statement Necklace
A bold necklace can update last year’s spring pieces and bring them into 2011. Oversized bling is the perfect tool to give clothing a shiny new look. This season’s hot jewelry can be found in gold, turquoise and corals or with eclectic beading and feathers.

: Aldo is best known for its shoes, but check it out for trendy, modestly priced accessories like this fun, faux, peacock feather necklace. A steal at only $15.98. (Photo:
