designers compete for a spot on toronto fashion week runway

This April, ten emerging Edmonton designers will compete for a chance to walk their collections at World MasterCard Fashion Week in Toronto.

The opportunity is thanks to the Mercedes-Benz Start Up program, an initiative of the luxury car company that offers up and coming Canadian designers mentorship and professional council to build a successful business in the fashion industry. Business savvy does not always accompany creative genius, but is truly the difference between the world's most successful designers and those sewing in their mother's basement.

Mercedes-Benz Start Up launched last year, choosing Martin Lim as the winner who received his own fashion show at Toronto Fashion Week,  a feature in FASHION Magazine and invaluable mentorship from industry leaders.

From April to August,  designers chosen from across Canada will walk their collections in front of a judging panel in Edmonton, Halifax, Quebec and Ottawa. Candidates from each city will be chosen to continue on in the competition and present collections at Toronto Fashion Week in October and one final chance to impress the judges to become the 2012 Mercedes-Benz Start Up winner.

Designers apply here!
Application deadline is March 30, 2012. (The application says March 16, but has been extended)
